Big Lights, Little City

The Hot Club was one of my absoulute favorite places to hang out when I lived in RI. I started going there in high school and when I had an office job, this 'wood shack' was my spot after work. It was on the water, and it had character.... and characters..... badump-bump! The last time I was in Providence was November of 2011, and I stopped in. They'd cleaned it up a bit.... yet, it was still that bare-bone bar. What's really cool is that they are now part of 'Night Lights,' along with their patrons and some other local businesses. Each night around 830P, they flash their red neon sign 4 times to say 'Good Night Hasbro Hospital.' It's something the kids and staff at the children's hospital have come to look forward to, and the kids have started flashing back at them. It's a wonderful testament to goodwill. Let Your Sun Shine In

  Let Your Sun Shine In   Hair One of my all time favorite movies in my teens was Hair.  It played often at the Avon, a revival theater on Thayer St in Providence, RI.  Hair spoke to my wild side, my sense of Freedom and rebellion, my dreams and love of life. Hi-Fi I had a 'déjà vu' moment while putting this together, and a very heartfelt moment while watching the video above.  My heartfelt moment was a reflection of the rare occasions that my father was home on a Sunday.  He would put on his 'hi-fi' system and play albums.  My father's stereo really had a great sound, and it put both my parents in a good mood.  Those times were memorable and welcome. For a 60s sound, I really gravitated towards The Mama's & The Papa's and The 5th Dimension.  Aquarius/Let The Sun Shine In was a a song I always looked forward to - especially when those horns kicked in........ that second half...
